A lot of times when I am reading something for an assignment or something else that I did not choose to read myself, I find myself skimming a little too much and not focusing on main points and little details. Throughout the semester i have gotten much better at location claims, details, and main points in the papers we have been reading. Annotating in the margins helps to focus on what I am supposed to think about when reading that particular piece. Rather than just skimming over some points I may have missed just reading, I will break it down more and focus on things I may want to comment on. If i am confused about something, I often times ask myself “what does this mean”. Sometimes it is hard to figure out what someone is trying to say, but if I comment in the margins and read up on context clues, it becomes quite simple. Annotations are there to further break down what I are reading. It is like a collection of thoughts that went through my head whilst reading. It can help me to better understand a paper by thinking deeper about what is going on in my head. I used this in many of my annotations and it let to a more clear and full understanding of what was going on in the reading and what points I was meant to catch.
